
Brother Lance Wyndon's Story

Brother Lance A. Wyndon was born on August 16, 1960, in Houston, Texas, to parents Henry Sr. and Loretta Wyndon. He attended the High School for Health Professions, where he developed a passion for music by playing the trumpet with the Houston Youth Symphony. Following his high school graduation, he joined the summer engineering program for first-year students at Prairie View A&M University in 1978. Additionally, Brother Lance was an active participant in the Naval R.O.T.C. program. During the academic year of 1978-1979, he received the Academic Excellence Award in recognition of his status as an Honor Student. In 1979, Brother Lance received the campus accolade of "Most Together," awarded to students who exhibit organization and composure under pressure. During his time at Prairie View A&M University, Brother Lance was recognized for his outgoing personality, calm demeanor, and peaceful smile.

Brother Lance, Algie Armstead, and Frederick Wells formed a friendship early in life, having first met during the summer of 1978 while pursuing degrees in engineering degrees at Prairie View A&M University. Following previous experiences with other collegiate pursuits, he would join the newly introduced affiliated brothers of Sigma Gamma Rho Rhomeo.
Upon becoming a member, Brother Lance was instrumental in the establishment of Rhomeo, serving as its first Secretary for the Delta Alpha Chapter. He also took on the responsibilities of Historian, ensuring that all necessary documentation for the chapter's formation was carefully maintained, including operational guidelines, bylaws, and details of service projects. As the second president of the Delta Alpha Chapter, Brother Lance successfully registered Rhomeo at Prairie View A&M University on September 30, 1981, marking the first official registration of Rhomeos on any college campus nationwide.
He graduated in the spring of 1982 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, achieving Magna Cum Laude honors and a Grade Point Average of 3.5.

Brother Lance’s Success:
Upon completing his education, Brother Lance relocated to California, where he effectively merged his academic background and practical experience in Mechanical Engineering to develop an impressive 36-year career. His areas of expertise included Electronic Packaging, Design and Export Compliance Regulations, manufacturing, flight testing, configuration management, and program management.

Brother Lance dedicated a significant portion of his professional journey to NGC-Northrop Grumman and NASA, with his final position being at Martin Skunk Works, Lockheed. During his tenure at Lockheed, he garnered numerous accolades from both colleagues and leadership. Additionally, Lance was an active member of the Prairie View A&M University Junior Fellow-Junior Managers association and contributed to community initiatives. He recognized the value of Lockheed's high school internship program and volunteered to mentor several students, despite his demanding schedule. Furthermore, he played a pivotal role in establishing and serving as the inaugural president of the "Antelope Valley & Santa Clarita Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers," which led to the creation of a scholarship in his honor.
Brother Lance Allen Wyndon entered Eternal Rest on June 23, 2020. His wife, Maria Lewis Wyndon, along with their children, family, and friends, dedicated themselves to preserving his legacy of love and ensuring that all fondly remembers him.
On March 3, 2022, a philanthropic organization named the "RHOMEO: Lance A. Wyndon Engineering Foundation" was established to memorialize Brother Lance's unwavering commitment to empowering young men and women for a prosperous future in the field of engineering.
